OCR World Championships Introduces Drug Testing to Obstacle Course Racing

In a move to further distinguish itself as THE independent championship for the burgeoning sport of obstacle course racing (OCR), the OCR World Championships has announced that it will be implementing a drug testing program for its October 2014  inaugural event.

As far as we are aware, this will be the first time an event or organizer  within our sport mandates participating athletes be subject to testing for performance enhancing drugs (P.E.D.s) and other prohibited substances. It will be interesting to see how this is received, what comes of the tests and whether other race organizes will choose to follow suit…

Today I’m happy to share news with you that will help bring Obstacle Course Racing to the next level on both an athletic and international stage by announcing that all athletes in the 2014 OCR World Championships will be required to comply with 2014 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards. More specifically, all competitors in the 2014 OCRWC will be subject to testing for performance enhancing drugs and prohibited substances.

On-site sample collection will be conducted by the National Center for Drug Free Sport, Inc. (Drug Free Sport™), a premier provider of drug testing services who provides testing for organizations such as USA Track & Field, the National Football League, and Major League Baseball, as well as another independent third party. Samples collected will be tested at a WADA accredited lab and athletes found in violation will be subject to penalties such as disqualification, forfeiture of prizes, and banishment from future competition. Further details regarding testing protocols and policies will be made available to athletes in the coming weeks.
